Owning pets is a lot of responsibility. At a bare minimum, they look to us for food and shelter. But if you’re like me, you consider your pet a part of your family. Like any family members, you want them to be happy and healthy. September is Responsible Dog Ownership Month and it’s a great time to remind ourselves how we can set an example and be the best pet parents. Today we are going to discuss feeding your pet a good diet.
I am asked by a lot of people, “What should I feed my dog?” My response is always “feed the best food you can.” Talk to your veterinarian, do research on how to read labels1 and don’t be afraid to contact pet food manufacturers with questions about amounts or sources of ingredients, processing, or anything else that may cross your mind. It’s important to know what you are feeding your dog.
As important as it is to know what is in your pet’s food, it’s just as important to know what isn’t. Just like human diets, pet diets can lack sufficient levels of key nutrients. For example, most dry kibble dog food may not contain optimal levels of specific functional ingredients that help support your pet’s health.
To be sure your pet gets everything he or she needs, I recommend supplements. With many supplement choices, it can be challenging to find one that you can trust not only to be safe, but also to provide what your best friend needs. That’s why we’ve developed our GNC Pets line of supplements with the same care as the rest of our products.
We also believe that it’s important to care for the millions of pets without a home or person to call their own. That’s why we donate thousands of dollars in supplements to animal shelters across the country. We feel that every pet deserves to Live Well. So next time you’re shopping for food, think supplements and you’ll be a gold-star pet owner!
