You may have heard of a juice cleanse trend in the news or magazines recently. This increasingly popular craze is getting a lot of attention of late and a Google search for “juice cleanse” produces over 9 million results! I decided to try the GNC Total Lean™ 2-Day Juice Cleanse because it’s a juice cleanse that is quick and doesn’t break the bank.
I had a very busy five days. From Thursday – Sunday I had two full days of work, went to a concert, and attended two weddings. One of those weddings included a flight to Chicago and a lot of eating out while catching up with college friends. Over the course of those busy five days my nutrition wasn’t quite the best. This was the perfect time to try the GNC Total Lean™ 2 Day Juice Cleanse. My body was in need of a “delicious blend of superfoods, herbs & vitamins to gently cleanse and rejuvenate the body” as the label says.
In addition to taking the juice, I decided to follow the nutrition plan which is listed on the back of the package as closely as possible. The suggested nutrition plan is vegetarian which was a switch for me. Let’s see how Day 1 went on the cleanse.
8:53am – Unlike other juice cleanses this program allows you to eat which I’m happy about. I’m making a conscious decision to eat a later breakfast and a later lunch than normal. The rush of morning work can keep my mind off hunger better in the morning than the afternoon.
9:46am – It’s time to eat! Breakfast is 1 cup of raspberries and 2 rice cakes with peanut butter. The meal plan calls for 3 rice cakes & 2 cups of raspberries, but I didn’t bring enough. I’ll make do though as this is more than I usually eat for breakfast.
10:17am – Uh oh. I’m worried I didn’t think this one through enough because I could really use some coffee. My brain seems like it’s covered in clouds without caffeine. This is going to be a struggle.
12:20 – It’s time for the first juice and I’m decently hungry at this point. The taste is…pretty good. It tastes a bit like apple juice. According to the directions I should take one juice 30 minutes before 2 meals a day. I’m going to do my juices before lunch and dinner.
12:50 – My stomach handled the juice just fine and it’s time for lunch. I’m having 1 cup spinach and romaine lettuce mixed with ¾ cup chopped vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers), oil & vinegar dressing, ¼ cup almonds.
3:10 – Time for a snack, I’m having a Total Lean™ Lean Bar and it is delicious.
6:32 – I just got home from work and must admit I’m starving. Usually I snack on something right when I get home but the nutrition plan calls for nothing between afternoon snack and dinner. Oh well, it’s time for a run.
8:14 – I’m ready for the second juice of the day and it tastes just as good as the first one.
8:45 – It’s time for dinner. I’m having 1 cup of brown rice, 1 ½ cup veggies (tomatoes, red peppers), 1 cup black beans. The meal tastes pretty good and it’s definitely filling.
10:46 – It’s almost time put an end to day one and I could go for some sort of snack, but I’m holding out strong!
Day 1 Tips & Takeaways
- Buy all of your groceries for your meals the day before. If you have all the ingredients for dinner you’re more likely to make it than stray to something different
- You won’t be drinking caffeine- stay strong!
- If you can hold off on eating breakfast until later you’ll be eating lunch and dinner later which will help you stay away from those delicious snacks in your kitchen at night
